Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I choose the right psychologist for me?Choosing a psychologist is a personal process - therapy is a relationship, and like any relationship, the fit matters. We recommend browsing our team on the website to see who resonates with you. It's also okay if the first person you try doesn't feel like the right fit. Sometimes it can take a few sessions to know. What is important is that you feel comfortable. Give the process time. If you are unsure chat with your psychologist or reach out to our practice manager. It is better to be honest so we can help you on this very important life journey.
-
How many sessions will I need?Therapy is a personalised process, so the number of sessions depends on your goals, concerns, and where you are in your journey. Because therapy involves building new neural pathways and shifting long-standing patterns, it takes time. We generally recommend at least 15 sessions to start seeing meaningful change. Some people may do up to 36 sessions or more - it all depends on what you need. The most important part is being consistent and committed to your own growth.
-
What happens if I want to stop therapy? You can stop therapy at any time. However, if you are feeling unsure, uncomfortable or not getting what you had hoped for, we strongly encourage you to speak to your psychologist or our practice manager first. Therapy can bring up difficult emotions and working through discomfort is often part of the growth process. Like any relationship, if something isn't working, its best to talk about to. Together, you can explore what's happening and decide on the best way forward.

What can I expect from my first session? The first few sessions are about getting to know you - your history, your concerns, what you would like to change and what your goals are. You will learn how therapy works and what to expect going forward. You may speak more as your psychologist gathers information and makes sense of your experience. This early stage is about building a foundation and is more exploratory. We encourage you to give the process time and not give up after one or two sessions. Therapy isn't a quick fix but a way to create meaningful, lasting change.
